"The serpent of Thorgard has seen us!” called the lookout, not at all dismayed.

"Excellent,” said Ivar Forkbeard. “Now we will not be forced to wind the signal horns across the water."

I grinned. “Tell me about Thorgard of Scagnar,” I said.

"He is an enemy,” said Ivar Forkbeard, simply.

"The ships of this Thorgard,” I said, “have often preyed on the shipping of Port Kar."

"The shipping of Port Kar,” smiled Ivar Forkbeard, “is not uniquely distinguished in this respect."

"He is, therefore,” said I, “my enemy as well as yours."

"What is your name?” had asked the Forkbeard.

"Call me Tarl,” I said.

"It is a name of Torvaldsland,” he said. “Are you not of Torvaldsland?"

"No,” I had told him.

"Tarl what?” he had asked.

"It is enough that you call me Tarl,” I said, smiling.

"Very well,” said he, “but here, to distinguish you from others in the north, we must do better than that."

"How is that?” I asked.

He looked at my hair, and grinned. “We will call you Tarl Red Hair,” he said.

"Very well,” I said.

"Your city,” he asked, “what is it?"

"You may think of me,” I had said, “as one of Port Kar."

"Very well,” said he, “but I think we shall not make a great deal of that, for the men of Port Kar are not overly popular in the north."

"The men of Torvaldsland,” I assured him, “are not overly popular in the south."

"The men of Port Kar, however,” said the Forkbeard, “are respected in the north."

"The men of Torvaldsland,” I told him, “are similarly respected in the south."

Gorean enemies, if skilled, often hold one another in high regard.

Marauders of Gor Book 9

Kateryn... Free Companion of Tarl Redhair

Kateryn, first-born daughter of Caprus and his second Companion the beautiful Lady Lita, was raised and educated within the walled gardens of Ar. Far from the prying eyes of its citizenry and even further from the dangerous enemies that so flock to the powerful city. A skilled scribe in her own right, she bears a refinement that would find her welcome even to the court of the Ubar. However, the place of a free woman on Gor is always tenuous. Even those born to lofty stature may find themselves chained and carried off in capture or political upheaval.

And such was the fate of the lovely daughter of Caprus. At the betrayal of Cernus, Kateryn found herself thrust into the hands of slavers from Turia. Her education and skills, as well as the high standing once held by her made her a delightful bargaining chip. She found herself passed from owner to owner, ending up in the camp of the Wagon Peoples, property of the Kamchak himself. A useful tool of the Ubar, though, as with the many other slaves who found themselves at his feet, Kateryn was sold away quickly, none finding his heart but the lovely Aphris. Once passed on again, she found her way into the hands of those of Treve. She lived and served within the well-protected city for many years.

After being bargained and lost on a game of Kaissa, she belonged to a Player of Port Kar. He brought her to the city, and soon she captivated a Warrior friend of her Master. The generous man offered her as a gift to the Warrior, who freed her in his love. On the arm of the Warrior, she was conducted to the Delta, finding her own love in the warmth and delights of the Port.  The warrior, called again to duty, and lost in battle... Kateryn was determined to go on with her life.

Upon leaving the Port, Kateryn with the assistance of a handsome Warrior again found her way back to the city of her birth.  Now she resides and is protected at the #Warrior_Inn.
